About Lab Test Result Pictures
MaleFromHome lab technicians can capture pictures of your sample as it is viewed under microscopic examination. Example pictures are shown below, along with answers to frequently asked questions about this feature.
How does MaleFromHome determine if my sample is positive or negative ("No Sperm Seen")?
Our lab techs review each sample under high-powered microscopic examination to determine if sperm are seen or not. Each sample is viewed under 40+ high powered fields, looking for presence of any sperm.
When will I receive pictures of my sample?
Once your sample is tested and our lab tech records the result, pictures of your sample will be captured and securely stored in our database. You'll receive a secure link to view your results via email or text. When you open the result site, your pictures will be visible.
How many pictures will I receive?
Our lab techs capture at least two (2) pictures of each sample. In some cases you will receive more than two pictures.
Will the pictures show exactly what was seen?
Yes and no. The pictures captured by our lab tech is a representation of your sample, found as they scanned through 40+ high powered fields. But, it is not a complete picture of your entire sample. In other words, these pictures are captured as evidence to support the test result they give according to CLIA testing standards for post-vasectomy semen analysis.
What are these clumps or blobs in my sample picture?
Each semen sample may contain leukocytes (white blood cells), epithelial cells, cell debris (e.g. proteins), or other clumps of seminal fluid. These are normal in almost all samples seen in our lab.
Positive, Grade "Moderate"
This sample contains a moderate amount of sperm in each captured high-powered field. Since sperm clearance after vasectomy may take several months, this may indicate the need to submit another sample after waiting a few more weeks. In other cases, it may be necessary to discuss this type of result with your vasectomy provider. Our lab technician will evaluate the sample and other criteria and make a recommendation in your test result report.
